So yes - it has been a year since I have posted here. I got caught up in the social networks and travelling and work. Mostly work. I haven't been able to give myself the space to think about things to write about. So I am trying to be back soon. First by upgrading this site, then by figuring out the purpose of this site. Until then. I leave you with alternative options for things to listen to. Some of my favourite podcasts:
That should keep you busy for a while.
UK show Skins about angsty teens which is way better then 90210 and I know this is a little Glee like - which is not standard skins but just love it. Ukelele True
Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.
This scene has the Mega shark taking down a plane in the air. At Flowing Data they have found an artists rendition of how this could happen. Also so you can see the video of it:
Everything I need to know about life I learned by playing Spider Solitaire
Since NBC.com will not let me see any of the videos because I am outside the US and everytime I try to find it on youtube it keeps getting shut down by the olympic commitee or NBC? (what is up IOC? - could you please get a youtube page soon so we can watch things?)
So I am going with the Redbull video where they built Shaun a private half pipe so that he could practice the move.
If you didn't see his Olympic run - Really - It was awesome.
So I love watching snowboarding. I hated actually snowboarding because I don't like to do things I am not good at from the start and I suck and snowboarding. So I am going to just stick with skiing as my winter sport, but MAN I love to watch some good snowboarding.
And really - I am not going to get over it, but Kudos to the BBC for showing everything at some point in time (sometimes at 3am) but whatever I don't watch anything in real time anymore so as long as I am able to tape it, that is fine with me. So I have been able to watch all qualifying, quarters, semis and finals of the mens and womens snowboard cross. WHICH WAS AWESOME. There were points during the races where I was screaming at the TV when it was close. Just great tv watching and great sport.
Now - onto the half pipe. Watching all the semifinals. Can I tell you that I love the US snowboarding outft with the snowpants that look like jeans. That's awesome and why has that not been thought of before. Go Ralph Lauren.
I think I will just have a full post about Shaun White because I love that SD boy.
So there is some french snowboarder show has this great french moustash and it is hilarious. The announcer has said he has the symbol of suaveness and sophistication - the traditional french moustash. Hee hee! He looks like Boris from Boris and Natasha.
Another day of recapping. going back to cover it live for today.
I don't think he will actually do this routine at the Olympics, but I would love it if he did.
Johnny Weir everyone.
I am unsure about the coveritlive.com thing, so this next event I am just going to do within the main MB.com platform. Might go back to the coveritlive, but we shall see. So onto Women's Moguls Finals. I watched the prelims already. There will be 20 people in the finals. The top ten is a mix of US and Canada and one Japanese. So this is the event where they go straight down a mogul track and then have two jump opportunities where everyone in the prelims were doing a mix of backflips, 360s and some front flips which I really cannot work out how you even do that. They are pretty awesome.
I think for the final some of the top women are going to do some pretty sweet tricks. I don't want to discount their mogul work as well. It is my dream to be able to do moguls that fast and well. I feel like I can do that for about 2 seconds and then I get stuck and freak out.
So it seems that the short track finals has pushed into this taping so I am going to comment on that part. A final for short track skating, it is Apollo Ohno who is in the final with some other people who should totally lose. He is the defending 1500 meter champion. The rest of the group are 2 Koreans also JR Celski who is another American. 17 year old from China and one Canadian. So should be a good match. Love the announcer "This should be a good cracker"
First thing up. Ski Jumping. I am trying a new service Cover it live which I can live blog the event. We shall see how it goes. Let me know if you like it or not.
As you all know, really the only sports I like are the Olympics and the World Cup. This year, I get both! So the Olympics has started and I am very excited to start my blogging about everything I watch. I have set the DVR to tape almost everything. I am only taping some of the curling and have decided not to do cross country I remember the last olympics and while it is a feat to do it, It is a tad boring to watch.
I will post daily with what I have watched, I am sure I am going to be behind what actually happened, sorry.
Positive - In the UK the BBC has almost the entire olympics on from the beginning with no commercials, almost no sob stories and including preliminary rounds and actually shows everyone competeing. Let me tell you - it is just another experience then watching it in the US. You get to see so many people competing. I love it. So let's get started. It is sunday and now that I have done brunch, the rest of my day is dedicated to Olympic watching becuase it is cold and gross outside. So a few posts today.
Starting off - Sadness of the first day with the tragic death of Georgian luge slider Nodar Kumaritashvili during a practice run. He was 21 and it was a terrible accident.
For all you people still stuck in your house in DC and for the rest who want to break away from the facebook baby pictures. New site. Jesus, Kirk and Vinny. It is about if Jesus, Captain Kirk and Vincent Van Gogh were hanging out in modern times drinking pabst and watching lost.
So they have now started SYTYCD here in the UK. Cat Deely is still part of the show, it is on the BBC. It is funny that I had forgotten how bad the first season of SYTYCD in the US was because it is showing up on this one.
Of the top 20, I would say 5 of them are good and the rest are either OK to pretty poor. I am hoping now that it is on, next year will be better.
Yun Zi is now on exhibit at the SD zoo.
They have a live panda cam. http://www.sandiegozoo.org/pandacam/
