The City Paper's current issue headlines "What Happened to Our Show?" While I don't agree with many points, I do think the Wire has started off pretty weak. I love Gus, but there is too much of the newsroom. Or, at least too much of Templeton. I really don't like the Jason-Blair-esque storyline. And, McNulty and the made up serial killer seems a bit absurd.
I was encouraged by last week's episode because I want more Marlowe, more Omar, more detective work, more wire.

ha!
Wow ...
Probably not the first name that comes to mind when I think "celebrity life-coach," but hey, I'm guessing it's all about niche marketing. Also, I am admittedly biased by my rural Indiana upbringing, where most folks over the age of 60 would probably respond to the concept of a life-coach with something like: "Jesus boy. Life coach? You mean your life is so f*cked up that you need a damned coach to help you do what comes naturally to cows and chickens and potatoes? You need to get your ass enlisted is what you need to do. They'll coach you right."
Maybe that is why the Army is having trouble recruiting ...? Competition from the life coaches.
Yeah the McNulty
I still love it too
suarelita Posted at 16:07 on Fri, 02/08/2008Although I do agree that the serial killer thing is too unbelievable. I also loved when they realized they were lying, I feel like the reporter realized it too. I also love that Bunk is the voice of reason all of a sudden. I do think the newsroom is really interesting and it fascinates me that it is that easy to make stuff up.
I think the wire will come down to a wits match between Lester and Marlo and that Lester will outsmart him in the end. Also, Herk is going to die, I can just feel it.
We should have a finale-party.
Josh had talked about hosting one

senor bananagrabber Posted at 12:58 on Wed, 02/13/2008we're happy to host if folks want to come out to reston for it. we could even have it on a saturday and watch the advance screening on-demand. i'm even entertaining a trip up to sterlings in bmore to get some fish cakes with saltines and mustard.
i think the last season felt so authentic and was about so much more than cops and robbers, that this season is suffering from my unrealistically high expectations. my favorite scenes from last season were in the classrooms - prezbo's breakthrough with the dice, the eiffel tower exercise. now, even the slightest departure from rigid realism feels fanciful (and conventional) by comparison. this season is still great TV but - like lost and travis - it's competing against an older, better version of itself.
